This Week's Strongest Links - 6-11-10

By Rebecca Chandler

lipsEvery Friday, I post some links to things we found interesting during the week.  This week,  real estate, social media marketing, and one of the coolest music festivals ever - Bonnaroo.  (links are in bold red below)

This week we attended the RIS Media Social Media Conference in Rye, NY and brokers and agents told us how they use social media as a part of their marketing plan.

First, a couple of key tidbits from the experts -

  1. Social media is great to maintain relationships, cultivate new relationships and generate inquiries, BUT closing the deal is still best done old style social - one on one, face to face.
  2. Social can't stand alone.  All agreed that it's only a PART of their marketing strategy.
  3. Strategic planning is key.  State specific goals, schedule postings, limit time spent.

Some highly recommended tools -

www.bit.ly - Sign up for free online to shorten urls and track click-throughs.  Why?  Shorter urls take up fewer characters in a tweet AND bit.ly will track click-throughs so you will know how popular the links you post really are.

www.hootsuite.com and www.seesmic.com are free services that help you manage multiple accounts from a single dashboard.  Manage your Twiter, Facebook Fan Page, and Facebook Profile, all in one place.

Thinking of starting a blog?  Try www.wordpress.com to get started.

More tips?  www.mashable.com - EVERYTHING you ever wanted to know about social media and more.

www.60secondmarketer.com - quick tips in 60 seconds or less.

And finally, for a little FUN and INSPIRATION - Check out  the  Bonnaroo Music Festival page.  Tweets, Facebook, webcasts, user uploaded content, etc. etc., etc.  This site utilizes every social media interaction ever.  Period.

Or, if you're like me  and are not only fascinated by the site, but also just love the music, (but refuse the camping), check out the YouTube Channel to watch live streaming video here all weekend  - http://www.youtube.com/bonnaroo  - Friday night - Tenacious D, Saturday - Kings of Leon, Jay-Z, Sunday - Weezer, Zac Brown, and Dave Matthews.  Check the lineup for more.  (tip from me - The Avett Brothers  would be a good addition to your Sunday brunch at 12:30).

Have a great weekend!!
