How to Buy a Beachfront Home on a Budget

By NPMGAdmin

by Courtney Soinski

Have you always dreamt of living right on the beach but don't think you can afford it?  Believe it or not, there really are ways you can buy a great waterfront home without busting your budget.

Here are some must-read tips that are sure to help in your beachfront home search.

  1. Ask yourself: Why do you want to live on the beach?

This is very important because different areas and communities offer unique activities.  For example, boating, fishing and waterskiing cannot be done on just any body of water.  You want to pick a home where you can get your money's worth in that area's beachfront amenities.

  2. Be patient. Do your research.

Make sure you really look around and research the area you want to live in before buying that dream beachfront home.  Concentrate more on the location first, then you can find a home in that community that fits your lifestyle and budget.

  3. Make frequent visits.

Try to visit several waterfront properties so you can pick the ones that best suit your needs.  You may also want to talk with people in the area as well as your local real estate agent.

  4. Consider living a street or two away from the water.

If you buy an interior lot with a great view, you can end up saving money.  Second-row beach homes are much cheaper and often have guaranteed water-access.  Being further back will also provide more safety from erosion.

  5. Look for homes constructed with non-traditional materials.

There are certain materials that are used in home construction that can lower home prices.  For instance, a material called Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) are pre-cut, easier to transport, and offer a great alternative to wood or concrete.

Using these great money saving tips, you'll have no problem finding the perfect beachfront home without putting a big dent in your bank account.
